Press Release Fatal Traffic Collision CCPD case# 2111-1817

On November 07, 2021, at approximately 1939 hours, Cathedral City Police Department (CCPD) officers were dispatched to the area of East Palm Canyon, east of Cree Road regarding a traffic collision involving a vehicle versus a pedestrian. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male lying in the westbound lanes of East Palm Canyon with major injuries. The Cathedral City Fire Department responded to the scene and provided medical aid. The male pedestrian succumbed to his injuries. The identity of the parties involved are not being released at this time. No other injuries were reported.    Continue reading

Fatal Traffic Collision / Case #2110-0447

On 10-02-2021, Cathedral City Police Officer’s responded to a single vehicle traffic collision which occurred at the intersection of Dinah Shore and Cathedral Canyon. Officers arrived and found an unidentified 81-year-old male from an unknown city of residence suffering from major injuries. The Cathedral City Fire Department extracted the driver from the vehicle and transported him to Desert Regional Medical Center. The driver later succumbed to his injuries. Continue reading

Structure Fire with fatality / Case # 2109-0769

On September 4, 2021, at about 2:49 a.m. CCPD Officers and CCFD Fire personnel were dispatched to a structure fire in the 32600 block of Sky Blue Water Trail. CCPD Officers arrived first and found a house on fire that was fully engulfed. One occupant of the home was outside the structure and advised his roommate was still inside the house. Hit and Run Vehicle Collision with Injury / Case #2109-0439 UPDATE

On September 3, 2021, at approximately 3:03 a.m. the pedestrian from the traffic collision died at Desert Regional Medical Center from his injuries. The pedestrian from the collision was identified as Jose Elias Campuzano, a 44-year-old resident of Cathedral City, CA. On September 3, 2021, Antonio Leon-Sanchez turned himself into Cathedral City Police Officers without incident. Leon-Sanchez admitted to being the driver of the vehicle at the time of the collision. Leon-Sanchez cooperated fully with the investigation. Continue reading

Hit and Run Vehicle Collision with Injury / Case #2109-0439

On September 2, 2021, at 8:07 p.m., CCPD Officers and CCFD Firefighters were dispatched to an injury collision involving a truck and a pedestrian on Ramon Road, just east of Landau Blvd. CCPD and CCFD responded immediately and arrived on scene moments later. Upon the arrival of CCPD and CCFD, an unconscious male was located in the westbound lanes of Ramon Road. The male had serious injuries to his head and body. He was immediately transported to Desert Regional Medical Center for treatment by CCFD. The male was identified as a 44-year-old Cathedral City resident. His name is being withheld pending notification of his family. The male at the time of this press release is in critical condition at Desert Regional Medical Center. Continue reading

Fireworks

As your police chief, it is my pleasure to report to you that our city experienced significantly less illegal fireworks activity this past Fourth of July holiday than in the previous year. In reviewing all calls for service related to illegal fireworks between July 1, 2021, and July 6, 2021, the police department received and responded to 156 fireworks calls. This is significantly much less than the 708 calls for service in the same time period back in 2020. Continue reading

DUI/Driver License Checkpoint

The Cathedral City Police Department will be conducting a DUI/Driver License Checkpoint on September 4, 2021, within the city limits of Cathedral City, between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 3:00 a.m. Checkpoint locations are chosen based on a history of DUI crashes and arrests. The primary purpose of checkpoints is not to make arrests, but to promote public safety by deterring drivers from driving impaired. Continue reading

Press Release Traffic Collision 2108-5582

On August 25, 2021, at approx. 0018 hours, Cathedral City Police Department (CCPD) officers were dispatched to a traffic collision on Ramon Road / Cathedral Canyon. Officers arrived on the scene and found two vehicles with major damage and five occupants with severe injuries. Officers learned the driver from the other vehicle fled on foot from the scene. Press Release Assualt With Deadly Weapon 2108-5535

On August 24, 2021, at approx. 1834 hours, Cathedral City Police Department (CCPD) officers were dispatched to the area of Date Palm and Dinah Shore regarding a victim that was assaulted with a firearm. Officers located the suspect vehicle and a vehicle pursuit ensued. The suspect vehicle came to a stop on Canyon Vista s/of Ramon Road and three juveniles ran from the vehicle. The driver was immediately detained and a short time later a second suspect was located. A perimeter was established and after a lengthy search the third suspect was not located. Continue reading
