FATAL TRAFFIC COLLISION

On 10-02-2021 at approximately 1715 hours, Cathedral City Police Officer’s responded to a single vehicle traffic collision which occurred at the intersection of Dinah Shore and Cathedral Canyon.

Officers arrived and found an unidentified 81-year-old male from an unknown city of residence suffering from major injuries. The Cathedral City Fire Department extracted the driver from the vehicle and transported him to Desert Regional Medical Center. The driver later succumbed to his injuries.

It appears at this time the driver suffered a medical emergency, which caused the vehicle to leave the roadway and collide with a tree. The exact cause of the collision is still under investigation by the Cathedral City Police Department Traffic Bureau. It appears the driver of the vehicle was not under the influence of alcohol / drugs and vehicle speed was not a factor.

The identity of the driver will not be released until the Coroner’s Office completes their investigation.
