This year we had the privilege on helping over 20 children from our community go in a shopping spree for themselves and their families 🎁

Special thanks to all that volunteered their time, the families, Walmart for hosting the event this year, McDonald’s for serving the department and the families, and Palm Springs Elks Lodge for their generous donation to help fund this year’s program 🙌🏻

Statement from Cathedral City, City Manager Charle

Statement from Cathedral City, City Manager Charles McClendon: The City is aware of an incident circulating on social media that occurred in November 2020 and involved a use of force by a former officer with the department. The incident was investigated thoroughly by the department’s internal affairs division and the use of force was also reported to the California Department of Justice in February 2021 as required by Senate Bill 1421.
Because this is a personnel matter I can’t discuss details of the investigation. At the request of the Police Department the matter is also being reviewed by the Riverside County District Attorney’s Public Integrity Unit.

The City takes all use of force incidents very seriously and each one is investigated immediately by Internal Affairs and other state agencies as required by law. We are always proactive in these cases and public safety continues to be a top priority for our City Council to ensure a high quality of life for our residents.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our tactical Doctor, Lawrence Heiskell “Doc H”. Lawrence was assigned to Desert Regional SWAT, which provides tactical coverage to the cities of @indiopolicedepartment @cathedral_city_police and @palmspringspd.

Lawrence served as a tactical doctor for the Kern County Sheriffs Department SWAT team from 1989-1992 before moving to the Coachella Valley. Lawrence joined the Palm Springs Police Department as a level 2 reserve in 1993. Lawrence’s primary duty was to provide tactical medicine while working on the Palm Springs SWAT team.

Lawrence was the founder and Director of the international school of tactical medicine. Since the programs inception in 1996, students have attended from over 1000 different agencies. Lawrence had lectured extensively nationally and internationally on the subject of tactical medicine and had published over 70 articles on related topics.

Lawrence’s commitment to tactical medicine is marked by his countless hours serving the community over the last 33 years. Doc Heiskell, we thank you for your commitment to the Palm Springs Police Department and Desert Regional SWAT.

We will miss you greatly!!!
