Press Release Kidnapping 2106-0059

On June 1, 2021, at approximately 0924 hours, Cathedral City Police Dispatch received a 911 call from an adult male who claimed to have been beaten, zip tied and held against his will for days. The victim was able to give officers information that led them to the 37000 block of Bankside Drive where evidence was located that cooperated his claim. Additional information was gathered identifying two suspects involved who were later arrested without incident.

Press Release Up-date for 2103-6123

Officers were given information on two suspects that were seen by witnesses fleeing the scene. Officers were able to locate both suspects (an adult and juvenile) a short distance from the park and detained them without incident. Both were transported to the Cathedral City Police Department and subsequently arrested. The adult was later transported to the Riverside County Jail in Indio and the juvenile was transported to Riverside County Juvenile Hall.

UPDATE – Homicide Investigation / #2102C-5395

Over the last nine days, CCPD Detectives have worked tirelessly to identify and locate those responsible for the senseless shooting death of a father of four with strong local community ties, who was not involved in criminal activity and died in his long-time place of business.  This criminal investigation included a collaboration with other law enforcement agencies, local businesses and critical involvement and cooperation from the local community.  This enabled CCPD detectives to identify the shooter in the homicide and the driver of the vehicle used to flee the area.

Assault with a Deadly Weapon / #2101C-7416

On January 28, 2021, at approximately 1918 hours, Cathedral City Police Department (CCPD) officers were dispatched to the 33100 block of Shifting Sands Trail regarding a shooting that just occurred. Upon arrival, officers located a male victim with a gunshot wound. Cathedral City Fire Department Paramedics responded to the scene and transported the victim to an area hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.

Armed Robbery Investigation / #2101C-4249

On January 16, 2021, at approximately 1930 hours, Cathedral City Police Dispatch received a 911 telephone call reporting an assault and robbery of a male subject in the area of Ave La Paz/ Vista Chino Rd. The male victim was located, who reported being assaulted and robbed by two Hispanic Adult Males. The victim indicated one of the assailants was armed with a handgun. During the assault the male victim was robbed of his wallet. The suspects(s) were seen fleeing in a gray/white 4-door sedan. The robbery was documented by patrol and forwarded to CCPD Detective Bureau for follow-up.

Shooting Investigation / #2012C-0465

On December 2, 2020, at approximately 1320 hours, Cathedral City Police Dispatch received 911 telephone calls reporting gunfire heard in the area of Ramon Rd/ Landau Blvd. Police were dispatched and arrived within minutes of the initial call. Police located evidence of a shooting between at least two adult males along the north side of the Ramon Rd. at Avenida La Paloma.

Cathedral City Police Department Press Release

Homicide Investigation / #2008C-1558

On August 6, 2020, at approximately 2129 hours, Cathedral City Police Department (CCPD) officers were dispatched to Century Park (located at 30555 Davall Drive in Cathedral City) regarding a physical altercation with subjects fleeing the area.  Upon arrival, officers located an unidentified male victim with life-threatening injuries.  CCPD officers immediately started CPR and life-saving efforts until Cathedral City Fire Department Paramedics responded to the scene and transported the victim to an area hospital.  Unfortunately, life-saving efforts were unsuccessful – the unidentified male succumbed to his injuries, and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.  The deceased was later identified as Ruben Mujica, 29, of Palm Desert.

Cathedral City Police Department Press Release

Homicide Suspect arrest / 2004C-0910

On April 4, 2020, at approx. 1945 hours, Cathedral City Police Department (CCPD) officers were dispatched to the area of Avenida Juarez and McCallum Way regarding multiple gunshots heard in the area.  A short period of time later, officers were dispatched to a second call in the area – a traffic collision involving a vehicle that ran off of the roadway and collided with a tree in the area of McCallum Way and Avenida Alvera.  At the traffic collision scene, officers discovered a male inside of the vehicle, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.  Officers and Cathedral City Fire paramedics arrived and attempted life-saving efforts.  Unfortunately, the male succumbed to his wounds at the scene and was pronounced deceased.  CCPD detectives arrived and initiated a homicide investigation.
