Synopsis of Incident:
On Wednesday 03/28/2018 at approximately 2145 hours, officers were dispatched to the 31000 block of Whispering Palms Trail reference a gun shot victim. CCFD arrived on scene and transported the victim who later succumbed to his injuries. CCPD Detectives responded to the scene and began their investigation. Detectives canvassed the area, processed the crime scene, and worked numerous leads. Video surveillance from the surrounding area showed the suspect vehicle pulled up to the victim’s home, the passenger door opened, and the suspect exited the vehicle and walked towards the victim. The suspect is later seen running away from the residence towards the awaiting suspect vehicle that was parked at the intersection. The suspect vehicle fled the scene at a high rate of speed. The case remained active as no arrests were made.

UPDATE:
In June of 2023, the CCPD Detective Bureau received an investigative lead which led to new information. Working this lead, they discovered the suspects and vehicle involved in the homicide. Through their investigation, they learned the identities of the two outstanding suspects (Troy Walter Edmund 09/13/1978 and Kipko Griffin 11/29/1974). Numerous search warrants were authored, and several interviews were conducted.

On Tuesday July 25th, 2023, Kipko Griffin was arrested for PC 187 by the Riverside County Gang Impact Team who executed a search warrant at his residence. He was taken in custody without incident. Griffin was booked into Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility on a one-million-dollar bail. Troy Walter Edmund was in custody on unrelated charges. He was also charged with PC 187 and remains in custody with a one-million-dollar bail.
