Summary:

On December 5, 2021, at approximately 2106 hrs. Cathedral City Police Department received 911 phone calls reference a solo vehicle collision on Date Palm Drive south of Varner Road. Cathedral City Police Officers responded to the scene and discovered a single Dodge Charger had driven off the roadway and rolled over. During the collision, the driver of the vehicle was fatally injured and was pronounced deceased at the scene by Cathedral City Fire Department. Cathedral City Police Traffic Investigation Bureau responded and began an investigation. From their investigation they discovered the Dodge charger at the scene was the only vehicle involved in the collision. At this time it is unclear if alcohol is a factor in the collision. The identity of the adult male driver is not available for release at this time, pending completion of the Riverside County Sheriffs/Coroners investigation and next of kin notification.

Northbound Date Palm Drive and southbound Date Palm Drive between Varner Road and Interstate I-10 were closed for the collision investigation. The roadway is anticipated to reopen by 0300 hrs. on December 6, 2021.
