Community Update
The first few months of the year have been an exciting time for your police department. In our continuing efforts to provide the community with progressive and professional police services, we have been able to add personnel to our staff to deal with increasing demands. Press Release / Fatal traffic collision investigation
On Saturday, April 20, 2019, at 2:10 A.M. Cathedral City Police officers were dispatched to a traffic collision in the 28400 block of Date Palm Drive. Upon arrival, they determined a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle in the northbound lanes of Date Palm Drive. The pedestrian, a 29-year old male from Banning CA, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. At this time, his identity will not be released, pending notification of next of kin. Continue reading→

Press Release – Drug Arrest
On April 6, 2019, at approximately 1326 hours, a Cathedral City Police patrol officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle at Whispering Palms Trl. and Baristo Rd., Cathedral City, for a traffic violation. The driver was found to be unlicensed and the vehicle was towed. During the inventory of the vehicle prior to impound, officers located approximately 2.36 pounds of heroin inside the vehicle. The driver and passenger were arrested for possession of a controlled substance for sale and transportation of a controlled substance. Both the driver and the passenger were booked at Riverside Co. Press Release – Elder Abuse Investigation / #1904C-1157
On April 5, 2019, at approximately 1809 hrs. Cathedral City Police officers responded to a residence in the 200 block of Avenida Andora to investigate a felony assault on an elderly male. During the investigation, CCPD officers learned that a 44-year-old adult-male caretaker physically assaulted an elderly male and took property from him. Officers started their investigation and leaned the victim was a wheelchair-bound and oxygen-dependent 73-year old male and the suspect was related to the victim. The victim was assaulted by his relative/caretaker who struck him with fists and a belt. The relative threatened to kill him, and then took a credit card from him. During the police investigation, Cathedral City Fire Dept. Paramedics arrived and treated the victim for his injuries. He was transported to a local hospital where he was admitted with multiple injuries. Cathedral City Police officers continued their investigation and tracked the suspect to a location in the City of Cypress in Orange County, CA. Officers from the Cypress Police Department assisted with the investigation and identified the suspect at a motel in their city. Cathedral City police officers responded to the City of Cypress with a search warrant for his vehicle / motel room, arrested the suspect and served the warrant with the assistance of Cypress PD. Press Release – Burglary Prevention
This is a busy time of year in the Coachella Valley. As the weather changes, residents and visitors enjoying the weather, often open windows and doors – and leave them unsecured during the day and in the evening. This creates opportunity for criminal activity. The Cathedral City Police Department wants to remind the community to remain aware and safe at all times. We are providing public-safety information (in the form of the attached flyers) regarding residential-burglary prevention. Attachments include residential-burglary prevention tips, a Spanish-language version, and information for victims of residential-burglaries.
