Location of Occurrence: Date Palm Drive south of Varner Road, Cathedral City, CA.


Summary:

On July 28, 2020, at approximately 1701 hours, Cathedral City Police Department (CCPD) officers were dispatched to the area of Date Palm Drive and Varner Road regarding a single vehicle traffic collision. Upon arrival, Officers located an adult male in the vehicle with major injuries. The Cathedral City Fire Department responded to the scene and the male driver succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the vehicle has been identified as a 57-year-old male from Desert Hot Springs. His identity is not being released at this time, pending the notification of the next of kin by the Riverside County Coroner’s office.

The Cathedral City Police Department Traffic Team is investigating the collision and it is unknown if drugs or alcohol were involved. North and Southbound traffic was closed to motorists for several hours while the collision was under investigation. All lanes have now been re-opened.
