On 12-23-19, Cathedral City Police Officers responded to Stater Bros in Cathedral City (located at 69255 Ramon Rd.) in reference to a video camera found in their public bathroom.  CCPD officers along with Stater Bros. Corporate Security were able to determine that a small, covert camera had been placed inside the bathroom, for the purpose of illegal video monitoring / surveillance.  (It is a state crime to record or place a recording device in a public bathroom.)

Media Release / Robbery Investigation and Arrest

On 12-16-19 at about 0230 hrs., an unidentified male adult entered the AM/PM convenience store at 68500 Ramon Rd, brandished a pistol at the clerk and demanded the clerk open a locked refrigeration display case. The suspect then took a bottle of beer from the case and fled on foot. Officers responded to the scene and conducted a preliminary investigation which included viewing the store surveillance video. The suspect was ID-ed by investigating officers and witnesses and arrest information was distributed to local law enforcement agencies.

Crisis Text Line

As the year comes to a close, I wanted to take a moment and make you aware of a new service that is available to those who might be struggling.  As of July of this year, a new law went into effect requiring that all student identification cards issued to California high school and middle school students have the Crisis Text Line (CTL) and other suicide prevention resources on the back of the ID.  The Crisis Text Line is available to everyone.

Cathedral City Police Department Press Release

Robbery Investigation / #1912C-3476

On December 16, 2019 at about 6:20 PM, a 16-year-old male juvenile called the Cathedral City Police Department (CCPD) to report he had been “jumped” and robbed by a group of unidentified males, near Ocotillo Park located at 33300 Moreno Rd.  He reported being surrounded by a group of at least ten males, who forcibly took his cellular phone and assaulted him.  CCPD officers started their investigation at the scene of the robbery and contacted witnesses in the area.  Officers were able to identify a group of males in the park as some of the males involved in the robbery and coordinated efforts with additional officers to detain the group.

CCPD/ABC Minor Decoy Operation

The Cathedral City Police Department Special Operation Section along with Agents of the California Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) have arrested two individuals for selling alcohol to a minor on December 16, 2019. The actions were the result of a minor decoy operation in which minors under the direct supervision of department agents, attempted to purchase alcohol from several retail licensees in the City of Cathedral City.

Incident ##1911C-0475 / Suspicious person on RING doorbell camera

On 12-3-19, a resident reported the recording of suspicious activity, via RING doorbell camera,  occurring at 10:00 PM on 12-2-19. The resident reported the incident to the Cathedral City Police Dept. who documented the incident and forwarded the information to CCPD’s Crime Analyst for distribution to other police agencies.  Upon initial review by CCPD and other agencies – this is NOT a police officer.

Media Release / Arrest for threats to school

On 12/02/2019 the Palm Springs Police Department (PSPD) was notified of a possible cyber-threat made on a social-media posting. The post depicted what appeared to be a handgun displayed by a male juvenile and was accompanied by verbal threats indicating the male wanted to shoot people at or near Palm Springs High School.  During the investigation, the person making the threats was identified as a 17-year-old Palm Springs High School student and a resident of Cathedral City. The Cathedral City Police Department (CCPD) was notified of the incident and started conducting the primary investigation into the post.  The Palm Springs Police Department and Palm Springs Unified School District aided in the investigation.
