Summary:

On May 16, 2021, at approximately 1816 hours, Cathedral City Police Dispatch received 911 telephone calls reporting a male intruder entered the residence and threatened the elderly occupants to leave his residence. As the occupants tried to defuse the situation the male intruder became agitated and made threats against their lives. The 85-year-old homeowner retrieved a firearm and defended himself by discharging the firearm, striking the male intruder in the upper body. The intruder was not known to the occupants. Officers arrived on the scene and immediately began emergency life-saving measures. Cathedral City Fire Department Paramedics arrived on the scene and continued medical treatment and the subject was transported to Desert Regional Medical Center. The subject is currently listed in stable condition in ICU and will be monitored until he recovers. Cathedral City Police Detectives responded to the scene and took over the investigation.
