Synopsis of Incident

On Wednesday 9/26/18 at 0715 hours, Cathedral City Police officers were dispatched to the 68000 Block of Hermosillo Rd for a traffic collision involving a single vehicle and two people on a bicycle.  Cathedral City Fire Department paramedics arrived to assist the injured parties involved in the collision and eventually transported two people to an area hospital.  The two transported were an adult mother and her 8-year old son.  Upon preliminary evaluation, THEIR INJURIES ARE NON-LIFE THREATENING AND MINOR.  Upon preliminary investigation, it was determined the parent and child were traveling on a tandem bicycle, westbound on Hermosillo toward Landau Elementary School.  A motorist was traveling eastbound and preparing to turn into a driveway on Hermosillo when the bicyclists were struck with the front of the vehicle.  The exact details and cause of the collision is still under investigation, however, heavy sun facing eastbound seems to be a contributing factor.

The Cathedral City Police Department wants to remind the public that early morning sunlight limits clear visibility – all those using our roadways should consider this and use extra caution during their travels.

Additionally, schools have been back in session for a few weeks now and children are frequenting our roadways and sidewalks.  Please be considerate of the safety our greatest resource – our children.
