Summary:
On December 9, 2020, at approximately 2104 hours, Cathedral City Police officers were dispatched to the area of Ramon Road and Avenida Alvera regarding a vehicle versus pedestrian traffic collision. Upon arrival, Officers located an adult male lying in the street with major injuries. The Cathedral City Fire Department responded, and the pedestrian succumbed to his injuries and died at the scene. At this time, his identity will not be released, pending the Riverside County Coroner’s Office investigation. The driver of the vehicle involved was cooperative and remained at the scene during the investigation. He was later released; alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor or cause of the collision. Westbound Ramon Road traffic was closed to motorists for several hours while the collision was under investigation.

The City of Cathedral City is reminding its residents and visitors that driver / pedestrian awareness is important while walking and driving – especially in the evening hours. Pedestrians are not easily identified and do not always use designated crosswalks. Please travel safe.
