Type of Case: Fatal traffic collision / #2001C-6511

Original Incident Reported: January 27, 2020 / 1941 hrs.
Location of Occurrence: 68300 Block Ramon Road, Cathedral City CA

On 1-27-2020 at approximately 1941 hours, Cathedral City Police officers responded to a vehicle vs. pedestrian collision which occurred in the west bound lanes of Ramon Rd., near the intersection of SkyBlue Water Trail.

Officers arrived and found an unidentified 41-year old male fatally injured from being struck by a sedan.  The driver of the sedan stopped his vehicle and remained on scene.  CCFD Paramedics arrived and confirmed the male was deceased.  The Riverside County Sheriff/Coroner’s Office was notified and responded to the scene.  The roadway was closed for a few hours while CCPD completed their initial investigation.  The roadway was reopened at approximately 0100 hrs.

It appears the pedestrian was crossing Ramon Rd., walking south to north, into the path of westbound traffic when he was struck.  The exact cause of the collision is still under investigation, but it appears the driver of the vehicle – who cooperated with officers – was not under the influence of alcohol / drugs and vehicle speed was not a factor.  He was released at the scene.

The identity of the pedestrian will not be released until the Coroner’s Office completes their investigation.

The City of Cathedral City is reminding its residents and visitors that pedestrian awareness is important while walking and driving  – especially in the evening hours.  Pedestrians are not easily identified and do not always use designated crosswalks.  Please travel safe.

No other information is available at this time.
