On June 2, 2019, at approximately 0156 hours, Cathedral City Police received a 911 call from the area of 68100 Ramon Rd.  The caller was the security guard at Guatemala Grill (a restaurant/nightclub at that location).  The callers reported a customer had taken his gun from a security guard and shot a female in the parking lot of the business.  Cathedral City Police responded, started a criminal investigation and learned the following: The bar was closing for business and the armed, private-security guard became involved in a physical fight with a number of patrons.  During the altercation, the security guard was disarmed by a male patron, inside the business.  The suspect walked outside with the security guard’s gun as the security guard followed and called 911 but was threatened by the suspect to drop his phone or he would be shot. A second dispute began outside the business between other patrons.  During this dispute, the suspect involved himself in the altercation and pistol whipped one female patron and shot another female patron in the upper torso.  The suspect and others flee in a vehicle, which is followed by witnesses who called 911 as followed.  Cathedral City Police officers track the vehicle to the AM/PM gas station at Palm Rd. and Paul Rd. in the area of Interstate 10 and unincorporated area of Riverside County. Along with assistance from Palm Springs Police Department and Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, the suspect, all involved parties and the outstanding pistol are located.  The shooting victim was treated at a local hospital – no further info is available on her condition at this time.

The primary suspect in the assault and shooting was positively identified and arrested for attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.  He is currently in police custody as the investigation is still in progress.
