On Saturday, April 20, 2019, at 2:10 A.M. Cathedral City Police officers were dispatched to a traffic collision in the 28400 block of Date Palm Drive.  Upon arrival, they determined a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle in the northbound lanes of Date Palm Drive.  The pedestrian, a 29-year old male from Banning CA, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.  At this time, his identity will not be released, pending notification of next of kin.

The driver of the vehicle has been identified as a 28-year old male from Desert Hot Springs.  He was detained for the investigation and later released.  Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor or cause of the collision.  Northbound Date Palm Drive traffic was closed to motorists for several early morning hours while the collision was under investigation – all lanes have now been re-opened.
