On 8/1/19 at 5:51 PM, CCPD Officers were dispatched to a residence in the 68400 block of Espada Road regarding a despondent male possibly threatening suicide.  Officers arrived and contacted family members of a 58-year old Cathedral City resident. The male was not at location.  The family was concerned about their relative, who left the residence with a firearm.  The family was concerned about his emotional state and felt he may be a danger to himself.  A short time later, officers located the male driving his pick-up truck in the residential area.

CCPD Officers attempted a vehicle stop and a low-speed pursuit ensued for a short distance, until the driver yielded on Tachevah Rd., near Panorama Park.  Upon approaching the vehicle officers, heard what was thought to be a gunshot from the vehicle.  As a precaution, an armored rescue-vehicle from Desert Regional SWAT was deployed to the scene.  Officers utilized the armored-vehicle to safely position themselves and approach the truck.  They located the male inside the truck with a gunshot wound to his upper body.  He was pronounced deceased at the scene and the Riverside County Coroner’s Office was notified and responded to complete their investigation.

At this time, there is no other criminal investigation and the name of the deceased is pending Riverside County Coroner Department’s investigation and authorization before release.
