Synopsis of Incident

On January 15, 2021 at 10:45 p.m., CCPD Officers were dispatched to a carjacking which had just occurred in the area of 30700 Kenwood Drive in Cathedral City CA.  CCPD Officers immediately responded to the area and contacted the victim, a 20-year-old Cathedral City male resident.  From the initial investigation Officers learned the victim’s 2019 blue Toyota Tacoma was stolen from him by two unknown Hispanic male suspects armed with firearms.  The suspects demanded the victim’s vehicle from him at gunpoint. The suspects then fled in the vehicle from the area northbound on Kenwood Drive.

CCPD Officers conducted a thorough search of the area for evidence, witnesses and the stolen vehicle.  The vehicle was not located during the search of the area.

On January 16, 2021 at 02:30 a.m., CCPD Officers were on an uninvolved call for service in the 32200 block of Rancho Vista Drive in Cathedral City, CA.  CCPD Officers observed the stolen vehicle from Kenwood Drive, driving south on Rancho Vista Drive.  CCPD Officers pursued the stolen vehicle southbound onto Date Palm Drive and then eastbound on Dave Kelley Road.  The suspects drove the stolen vehicle into the desert area east of Plumley Road north of Dinah Shore Drive.  The suspects fled from the stolen vehicle into the vast desert area.  A perimeter was set up around the desert area where the suspects had fled.

CCPD Officers with the assistance of Riverside County Sheriffs and California Highway Patrol Air unit conducted a thorough search of the desert, however the suspects were able to evade capture under the veil of darkness. The stolen vehicle from the carjacking was recovered and returned to the victim.

Suspect Descriptions:

The suspects were described as two Hispanic males approximately 16-22 years in age.  The suspects were wearing dark clothing and dark masks.  Both suspects were armed with firearms during the carjacking.
