On Sunday, July 1, 2018, at 9:30 pm, Cathedral City Police Officers were working a special detail addressing the use of illegal fireworks in the city, when they checked an occupied vehicle parked in the parking lot of a gas station in the 27900 block of Date Palm, Cathedral City.
During their investigation, the officers discovered a large quantity of illegal fireworks inside of the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle, Osbaldo Delgado, a 35-year-old Indio resident, was arrested for possessing the illegal fireworks, which is a felony in the State of California. Officers also searched Delgado’s residence in Indio, and located additional illegal fireworks.
This investigation removed over 1,200 pieces of illegal fireworks, which included mortars, roman candles, missiles, bottle rockets, and firecrackers, weighing more than 400 pounds.
The Cathedral City Police Department will continue our proactive enforcement efforts to reduce the hazards illegal fireworks pose to the public. You are subject to receiving a $1,000.00 fine, or arrest, for possessing any non-“safe and sane” fireworks within our city limits.
