The Cathedral City Police Department will be conducting a DUI/Driver License Checkpoint on September 4, 2021, within the city limits of Cathedral City, between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 3:00 a.m.
Checkpoint locations are chosen based on a history of DUI crashes and arrests. The primary purpose of checkpoints is not to make arrests, but to promote public safety by deterring drivers from driving impaired.

Press Release Traffic Collision 2108-5582
On August 25, 2021, at approx. 0018 hours, Cathedral City Police Department (CCPD) officers were dispatched to a traffic collision on Ramon Road / Cathedral Canyon. Officers arrived on the scene and found two vehicles with major damage and five occupants with severe injuries. Officers learned the driver from the other vehicle fled on foot from the scene. Cathedral City Fire personnel responded and transported the injured victims to local hospitals. Cathedral City Traffic team responded and took over the investigation.

On August 24, 2021, at approx. 1834 hours, Cathedral City Police Department (CCPD) officers were dispatched to the area of Date Palm and Dinah Shore regarding a victim that was assaulted with a firearm.
Officers located the suspect vehicle and a vehicle pursuit ensued. The suspect vehicle came to a stop on Canyon Vista s/of Ramon Road and three juveniles ran from the vehicle. The driver was immediately detained and a short time later a second suspect was located. A perimeter was established and after a lengthy search the third suspect was not located.

On June 26, 2021, at approximately 0238 hours, Cathedral City Police Dispatch received a 911 telephone call reporting a gunshot wound victim in the 31800 Blk of Neuma Drive, Cathedral City. Police were dispatched to the scene where they located an adult male lying in the roadway. The victim appeared to have suffered multiple gunshot wounds. Unfortunately, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene by Cathedral City Fire Department Paramedics. The scene was secured, and Cathedral City Police Detectives initiated a homicide investigation.

While on scene, officers were given information of a third suspect that was seen by witnesses fleeing. After many hours of in-depth follow-up, Cathedral City Police Detectives were able to identify and locate the third suspect (Genaro Jaime Lozoya) and take him into custody without incident. He was transported to the Cathedral City Police Department and interviewed. As a result of that interview and the totality of the investigation, he was arrested and transported to the Riverside County Jail in Indio and charged

Upon arrival, Officers located an adult male in his vehicle with major injuries. The Cathedral City Fire Department responded to the scene and the male driver succumbed to his injuries.

On June 1, 2021, at approximately 0924 hours, Cathedral City Police Dispatch received a 911 call from an adult male who claimed to have been beaten, zip tied and held against his will for days. The victim was able to give officers information that led them to the 37000 block of Bankside Drive where evidence was located that cooperated his claim. Additional information was gathered identifying two suspects involved who were later arrested without incident.
