Information has been received by the Cathedral City Police Department that someone is calling citizens at random and telling them they are a police sergeant with the Cathedral City Police Department and they have an arrest warrant for them. They are then requesting money or giving directions to deposit money into an account. This is not true, it is a SCAM. The Cathedral City Police Department – nor any other police department – will demand money for an arrest warrant, in lieu of jail. Warrants are paid at the court – not to a police officer! Please disregard any phone calls or callers making these claims. The Cathedral City Police Department will not call you and notify you of a warrant and will not threaten to arrest you if you do not pay for the warrant. This is a SCAM.Continue readingMore Tag

The Cathedral City Police Department completed a “Gun Buyback Program” for December 2018. The Cathedral City Gun Buyback Program rewarded the voluntary surrender of firearms, while engaging our community towards a common goal of reducing gun violence. The event was created as an anonymous turn-in process in which individuals drove their vehicles up and surrendered their weapons, no questions asked. Those turning in guns were given gift cards from various local retailers and businesses. The guns then become property of the police department. The serial numbers were checked and the guns will be scheduled for destruction. As of the time of this release, there are over 50 guns that have been turned in. Handguns amounted for almost half of the guns turned in and rifles amounted to the other half. At least two “assault-type” rifles – as classified by the State of California – were turned in. The Cathedral City Police Department worked in partnership with Falcon Brands Inc. who assisted in funding this anti-crime program, which was a great successContinue readingMore Tag
